Sandy Allnock’s Watercolor
ColorLibrary
the worldwide watercolor community.
The story behind my color studies
As an artist who had a lot of colors, so many sat in a box unused; I had swatched and dismissed them if that swatch didn’t sing the right way that day. I knew that a bloop of color doesn’t tell me much about how a color performs in an actual painting, so I embarked on a years-long exploration of all 272 Daniel Smith colors during the summer of 2026.
Poke around on this site as it develops – the first pages are for those colors in which I recorded some of the process in video, but I’ll expand as I have time to bring in colors from previous works that suit this project. Over the years, I hope to complete this collection to provide a useful resource for the worldwide watercolor community!
About the artist
I’m Sandy Allnock, a watercolorist living in the Seattle area, and have been painting since about 2017, but an artist my entire life. I earned a Bachelors Degree in Art at Frostburg State University.
My favorite thing
Out of all the mediums I use…watercolor’s by far my favorite. I love to keep learning, and there’s a bottomless sea of opportunities with the medium.
On Daniel Smith
I was lucky enough to fall in love with Daniel Smith’s paints early in my watercolor career—and it’s a joy to serve as a Brand Ambassador for them. The paints are high quality, lightfast, and I love the transparency, granulation, and mixability that help me create the way my heart wants to paint!
My Passion
A crazy project like this isn’t done for the sake of creating a library. It’s to help other painters! Teaching is my love, and I know this could be a really helpful tool for the global community of watercolorsts.
Upcoming Events
Guess what? I’m teaching in person again! Slowly at first, just a few gigs, but in the next few years I hope to increase that a little bit.
October 27 – December 1, 2026
University Women’s Club, Seattle
For six weeks, we’ll gather in downtown Seattle to paint landscapes! We’ll practice techniques, talk about how to plan a painting to increase chances at success, and become a community as we do. There’s a morning and afternoon session each Tuesday.
Once I have signup info I’ll post it here – let me know if you’d like a notice when that info is available.

Get Involved
As this project develops, I’ll be adding other artists’ work in a particular color to that page. I’ll have more information on how that will work as I figure out a system that I can manage – but do play with the colors you see on this website, and those will be the first “tests” that will be added here.
Get In Touch
Drop me a line and let’s make something fantastic together.
